Pick your favorite local projects for Participatory Budgeting 2019

From March 30 to April 7, residents ages 11 and up in the 26th Council District (Long Island City, Sunnyside, Woodside, Astoria) can vote for their favorite projects in this year’s participatory budgeting.

After months of community engagement, the ballot has been narrowed down to 13 final projects:

  • Technology Upgrades for Libraries ($450,000)
    • Location: Sunnyside, Woodside, Broadway, LIC and Court Square Libraries
    • Description: Technology upgrades (PC, printer, simple scan, A/V, presentation screens, etc.) for all five libraries in the district.
  • Technology Updates for Schools ($400,000)
    • Location: PS 112, PS 150, PS 166 and Academy of American Studies
    • Description: Laptop carts, computers, projects and interactive boards
  • Academy of American Studies/Newcomers HS Auditorium Upgrade ($450,000)
    • Location: Academy of American Studies and Newcomers High School
    • Description: Upgrade stage lighting to replace broken lights to create a better learning environment for both schools’ students.
  • PS 150 Hydroponics Science Lab ($200,000)
    • Location: PS 150
    • Description: STEM classroom where 1,000+ students will grow food, learn hands-on about nutrition, land use and sustainability.
  • PS 112 Bathroom Renovations ($200,000)
    • Location: PS 112
    • Description: Repairs, upgrades and efficiency enhancements to four bathrooms.
  • Accessibility Improvements ($120,000)
    • Location: Borden Avenue Veterans Residence (LIC)
    • Description: Enhance disabled access to veterans’ service center by installing a sliding front glass door.
  • Garden Beautification in Ravenswood ($300,000)
    • Location: Ravenswood Houses
    • Description: Create new raised garden area near Community Center and make beautification improvements to adjacent outdoor seating area.
  • Lighting and Beautification in Woodside ($300,000)
    • Location: Woodside Houses
    • Description: Improve lighting near the Community Center, install benches and install better fencing around existing garden area.
  • Beautification in Queensbridge ($300,000)
    • Location: Queensbridge Houses
    • Description: Comprehensive project including improved benches, signs, outdoor space, benches and permanent flower pots.
  • Community Center Bathroom Upgrades ($600,000)
    • Location: Ravenswood Houses
    • Description: Renovate bathrooms, which are currently in state of disrepair. Includes energy saving improvements.
  • Add Green Space to Lou Lodati Park ($650,000)
    • Location: Lou Lodati Park (Sunnyside)
    • Description: Add green space to certain areas in Lou Lodati Park including turf in the baseball and volleyball fields.
  • Renovate Sixteen Oaks Grove ($600,000)
    • Location: Sixteen Oaks Grove Park (LIC)
    • Description: Renovate Sixteen Oaks Grove by adding trees, plants and benches. Urban green space benefits people and communities.
  • Bus-Time Countdown Clocks ($200,000)
    • Location: Throughout District 26
    • Description: This addresses the need to provide groups that cannot rely on or utilize the subway system with in-time bus information.
