Rally planned against Sunnyside/Woodside bike lanes

A group of businesses, civic groups, parent-teacher associations and religious institutions are planning a big rally at the Sunnyside Arch on Wednesday evening against the mayor’s decision to implement protected bike lanes on Skillman and 43rd avenues.

The protest is the latest in a long saga of community opposition to the city’s plan, which would eliminate 116 parking spots, but add safety measures along the highly-used corridors.

If you recall, Community Board 2 and local elected officials all came out against the plan, but the mayor has the ability to override those decisions.

They hope to convince the mayor to reverse his decision before the protected bike lanes are implemented over the summer.
